The ultimate goal of the project, “Enhancing the Participation of Community-based Organizations (CBOs) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Democratic Governance in Bangladesh”, funded by the European Union and being implemented by Oxfam in Bangladesh and Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), is to ensure that the development in Bangladesh is inclusive and sustainable which will be achieved through a democratic practice of social accountability through the local authorities (LA) and local government (LG) representatives and enhanced participation of the Community-based Organizations (CBOs) and the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

বাংলাদেশে এসডিজি বাস্তবায়নে সক্রিয় সমর্থন প্রদানের উদ্দেশ্যে সিপিডি ও অক্সফাম ইন্ বাংলাদেশ যৌথভাবে, ইউরোপিয় ইউনিয়নের আর্থিক সহায়তায়, দেশের ১৩টি জেলায় “গণতান্ত্রিক সুশাসনে জনসম্পৃক্ত প্রতিষ্ঠানের অংশগ্রহণ” শীর্ষক একটি প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়ন করে আসছে। প্রকল্পের মূল উদ্দেশ্য হচ্ছে টেকসই উন্নয়ন অভীষ্ট (এসডিজি) বাস্তবায়ন প্রক্রিয়ায় স্থানীয় সরকারসমূহের দ্বারা প্রদত্ত বিভিন্ন সেবার কার্যকারিতা বৃদ্ধিতে অবদান রাখা এবং এক্ষেত্রে সরকার বহির্ভূত বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠানের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণের সুযোগ সৃষ্টির মাধ্যমে বাস্তবায়ন প্রক্রিয়ায় স্বচ্ছতা ও জবাবদিহিতা নিশ্চিত করা। সুনির্দিষ্ট কর্মসূচীর মাধ্যমে এ লক্ষ্যে স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি এ প্রকল্পের অন্যতম উদ্দেশ্য।
বাংলাদেশসহ পৃথিবীর ১৯৩টি দেশ অর্থনৈতিক প্রবৃদ্ধি, অন্তর্ভূক্তিমূলক সমাজ ব্যবস্থা এবং পরিবেশ-বান্ধব উন্নয়নের লক্ষ্যে কাজ করার জন্য প্রতিজ্ঞাবদ্ধ হয়েছে। ২০৩০ সালের মধ্যে ১৭টি অভীষ্ট এবং ১৬৯টি লক্ষ্য বাস্তবায়নের উদ্দেশ্যকে সামনে রেখে যে বৈশ্বিক উন্নয়ন পরিকল্পনা, এজেন্ডা ২০৩০’ গৃহীত হয়েছিল তা অর্জনের জন্য বাংলাদেশ কাজ করে চলেছে।

Social protection amount is a numbers game
There is an urgent need to enhance cash transfers to the marginalised and affected households in view of COVID-19 – initial budget allocation should not be a constraint to this end. Higher coverage and budgetary allocation are required for SSNPs in the form of cash transfer.
Relief distribution during COVID – Need to develop integrated and updated database
The Government of Bangladesh (GoB) had taken several support measures to be delivered by the local authorities (LAs), targeted for the poor and the vulnerable sections of the population, to tackle the situation originating from the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a lack of disaggregated national-level database which is required for effective distribution of these supports.
